The Brown Palace Hotel is a historic hotel in the heart of downtown Denver. Built in 1892, it is the second-longest operating hotel in Denver and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, it has played host to several notable guests and events including U.S. Presidents and national political conventions. In November 1987, leaders of the appraisal profession gathered at the Brown Palace Hotel to discuss the future of the profession and the need for clear standards and qualification criteria in the wake of the Savings and Loan Crisis. At that meeting, the first official steps in organizing The Appraisal Foundation were taken. We are thrilled to be returning to the Brown Palace Hotel 40 years later to mark this historic event and look back at the journey of the appraisal profession since that momentous gathering.
