Returns
Eligibility & Conditions
- Physical products must be in new condition and received back to the Foundation's fulfillment center within 30 days from order delivery to have the potential for a return.
- The customer is responsible for paying for the cost of shipping for returns. The $5 handling fee from the initial purchase is nonrefundable.
- A $5 restocking fee is deducted from the refund
- Digital products are nonrefundable unless it is a duplicate order. Duplicate orders in this context are defined as the same digital publication purchased by the same customer account (email address) twice. In such instances, the second purchase is eligible for return. A $5 return processing fee will be deducted from the refunded amount.
Refund
Upon receipt of the returned item, it will be looked over and, if eligible, approved within one business day. A restocking fee of $5 will be applied to all returned items and deducted from the total refund. After the return is approved, the refund will go to the original payment method within 7-10 business days, depending on the banking institution.
How to Initiate a Return
- Sign in to your customer account by clicking the profile icon in the upper right corner of the page
- Enter the email address used for the purchase and then a six-digit verification code that's sent to the email (no password required)
- Once signed in, click "Request return" for the order you want to return
- If the order has multiple items, select which items you want to return
- Choose a return reason from category-specific options and add any notes
- Click "Request return" to submit
After submission, the Foundation receives a notification to review and approve or decline the request. Returns that meet the return
policy guidelines will be approved and the return will be initiated. Return details to follow via email. If a return is declined, the customer will also receive a notification stating the reason why.
Undeliverable Shipments or Refused Deliveries
If an item is deemed undeliverable by the carrier or the delivery is refused by the recipient, the order will be returned to the Foundation and the original payment will be refunded to the customer. The return cost of shipping due to the undeliverable address or refused delivery will be deducted from the refund, in addition to the $5 restocking fee.

Upfront Payment
Policy on Upfront Payment
As of June 30, 2025, The Appraisal Foundation has shifted to an upfront payment model. All customers will pay for their materials at time of purchase, unless otherwise granted permission via the Local, State and Federal Government Agency Exception below. Materials will not be shipped until payment is received.
Local, State and Federal Government Agency Exception
If a local, state, or federal government agency's procurement policies require invoicing, they must contact Lisa Streater, Accounts Payable/Account Receivable Coordinator at lisa@appraisalfoundation.org, including any information relevant to requesting the exemption. The Publications Manager may request more information on the agency's policies then recommend an exception be made to allow invoicing. This exception is only available to local, state, or federal agencies. All state and government agency exceptions must be approved in writing by the Publications Manager. Once the exception is approved, the Publications Manager will give the agency's named contact access to an invoicing option through the Shopify store.
Tax Exemptions
Applying Tax Exemption to Orders
If you are ordering on behalf of your tax-exempt organization, please email Lisa Streater at lisa@appraisalfoundation.org to confirm your organization's tax exempt status. Please allow up to 48 hours for approval. Tax exempt status must be approved prior to ordering. Orders with tax applied will not be refunded once placed.
